“It is a real joy working with families as they explore their birthing options and acquire a desire for a customized birth. I like to build the kind of relationship that gives mom and dad the comfort of having a friend in the room. A funny, intuitive and helpful friend.”
Serena O'Dwyer, Birth Doula
- Location: Lake Stevens, WA
- Training: Labor Support Course – Seattle Midwifery School with Penny Simkin (2006), Childbirth Educator Training – ICEA (2007), Passion for Birth Lamaze Educator Training (2011), Evidence Based Birth Instructor Course (2016-currently enrolled)

- Experience: I began teaching childbirth classes in March of 2008 and have over 400 hours of teaching experience. I currently hold the Director of Education position at the Pregnancy Resource Center. As a doula, I have been attending births for 10 years and have attended over 100 births.
- My Philosophy: I believe in individulised care, informed decision making and respectful communication. I think that my certifying organization, Lamaze International, states it the best:
- Birth is normal, natural and healthy.
- The experience of birth profoundly affects women and their families.
- Women’s inner wisdom guides them through birth.
- Women’s confidence and ability to give birth is either enhanced or diminished by the care provider and place of birth.
- Women have the right to give birth free from routine medical interventions.
- Birth can safely take place in homes, birth centers and hospitals.
- Childbirth education empowers women to make informed choices in health care, to assume responsibility for their health and to trust their inner wisdom.
