I was blessed with two doulas during my birthing experience one of which was Serena and the other Emily. Together these two wonderful ladies helped me and my husband have a beautiful birth from what started out in a whirlwind of unknown. It was such a great deal of help to have a few extra hands keeping an eye of the goings on that happen throughout the course of laboring and also being there as a support for my husband so he was better able to take care of me. This was our first baby, and we had a bit of a lengthy labor, I feel that our doulas were the added strength we needed to pull us through our birthing time. They knew when to step in and when to give us space to be in the moment, and I appreciate how in tune they were with my requests for our birthing plan and incorporating them in the best they could given the circumstances. My husband didnt feel like he was any less involved, or that his role was being taken over, but rather that he had someone to help him out and give him support when he needed it. It was an amazing experience, and when we decide to get pregnant again, we will definately have our doulas be a part of our birthing experience once again. -Kathleen Sapien-Anderson
